Before it “all comes down to this”, five Beaver County teams will have make one final push in order to battle for WPIAL gold next week at Acrisure Stadium. Rochester, South Side Beaver, Beaver Falls, Aliquippa, and Central Valley are all just 48 minutes away from a trip to Pittsburgh, a date with destiny–and for a couple teams, a rematch to the stars.

A rematch will be in order tonight for the Rochester Rams (7-4), as they play Big Seven foe Union (9-3) in the Class 1A Semifinals tonight on 99.3 FM, 1230 WBVP and the Trib Live High School Sports Network. The last time these teams met, the Scotties broke a scoreless tie in the final minute to down the Rams on Homecoming night. Now the #14 Rams look for revenge coming off of a 30-14 quarterfinal victory against #6 Fort Cherry, while the #10 Scotties look for the season series sweep coming off of a 30-28 upset of #2 Laurel. Bruce Frey and Eddy Crow will have the call from Bulldog Stadium in Freedom tonight, with pregame at 6:30 and kickoff set for 7:00 PM.

On 95.7 FM, 1460 WMBA and Trib Live tonight, there will also be a rematch…albeit one calendar year in the making. #1 seed Aliquippa (10-0) looks to return to the championship game as they battle #5 McKeesport (11-1) in the Class 4A semifinals. This is the second consecutive year that these two teams have met in the semis, with the Quips outlasting the Tigers in last year’s contest by a score of 27-21 in double overtime. In this year’s playoffs, the Quips enter tonight’s contest following a 41-7 walloping of #9 Montour, while McKeesport last week knocked off #4 Armstrong by a tally of 41-21. Mike Azadian and John Perrotto have the call from Canon-McMillan for tonight’s contest, with pregame at 6:30 and kickoff set for 7:00 PM.

Here’s all eight contests for tonight’s WPIAL semifinals, the winners move on to the championships at Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field) next Friday. All games tonight are at 7:00 PM:

Tigers Shut Out Ligonier Valley 52-0

After a power outage at Reeves Field, this matchup almost didn’t happen Friday night.  The game was moved to Blackhawk High School, and the Tigers didn’t miss a beat.  The game got started around 8:30 and Beaver Falls was strong from the start.   Big plays and a stiff defense helped the Tigers lock this one up early.  The score at the half was 38-0, with the mercy clock already running.  After a quick second half, the Tigers came out victorious with a final score BF 52 LV 0.

Local Teams Looking For Victories In WPIAL Football Quarterfinals

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

After tonight, the “final four” will be set in Class 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A. In order to be part of that, local teams will either have to knock off the rust from the bye week or carry their momentum from last week to land themselves in the WPIAL semifinals.

Tonight on Beaver County Radio, #2 seed Beaver Falls (9-1) comes off their bye week in the Class 2A playoffs to host #7 Ligonier Valley (8-3) at Reeves Field in the WPIAL Quarterfinals. The Tigers’ last game was a 42-8 win over Western Beaver at Reeves Field, a match that would have taken place again tonight if not for the result of the Rams’ last game–a victory over the #10 Golden Beavers by a tally of 27-20 at Greensburg-Salem. Coverage on 95.7 FM, 99.3 FM, 1230 WBVP & 1460 WMBA along with the Trib Live High School Sports Network begins with pre-game at 6:30 and kickoff from Reeves Field at 7:00 PM.

Bobcats Hold Off Lancers in 1st Round of Playoffs

The Deer Lakes Lancers met the Beaver Bobcats at Pat Tarquinio field for the first round of WPIAL playoffs Friday night. It would be hard to say the Bobcats had a rough start even after a disastrous play resulted in a fumble. Lucky for Beaver, they recovered the ball and took the next play to the end zone.  The Bobcats defense managed to hold the Lancers back and Deer Lakes were only able to score 3 points on a field goal in the first half.  The halftime score was Beaver 14 Deer Lakes 3.  The second half became a battle of defense with both teams achieving a strong hold on eachother.  Beaver managed 3 more points while Deer Lakes didn’t get any for the rest of the contest.  The Bobcats move on to round two with a final score Beaver 17 Deer Lakes 3.
