Pirates on Fire on West coast !!!!!!

The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their hot west coast trip by beating the San Francisco Giants for the second game in a row and are now 4-1 on this trip. The Bucs won two out of three against the Dodgers last weekend and now have another series win after taking the first two games from the Giants.  The St. Louis Cardinals won beating the Houston Astros 8-5 keeping the Bucs at bay one game back for the second wild card. The Miami Marlins lost to the Reds 6-3 and are now tied with the Pirates.  The Giants are now the first wild card after falling into second place in the National League West with last nights loss and the Los Angeles Dodgers thumping of the Phillies 15-5.  Both the Giants and Cards have played two more games than the Pirates at this point in the season. The Pirates finish the west coast trip this afternoon as they go for a series sweep and a 5-1 road trip before they return home to PNC Park for the beginning of a six game home stand on Friday night against the Miami Marlins. The Pittsburgh Pirates are now only one game out of the second wildcard after Gregory Polanco lead the Pirates to victory with a home run and four  RBI’s Monday night from AT&T Park in San Francisco.  Andrew McCutchen  put a stop to a seventh inning rally with a sportscenter top 10 catch of the day.  Ryan Vogelsong picked up his first win in three starts since returning from the disabled list earlier this month . It was an emotional return to San Fran for Vogelsong as this is the first time he has been back since leaving San Fran as a player. The series continues tonight as the Bucs look to continue their hot west coast trip winning 3 of 4 so far. Big Ben to sit out Steelers game Friday

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told Teresa Valley, from Steelers.com and other reporters today that Friday’s opening pre-season game against Detroit will be a chance for a lot of younger players to show case their talents as many of the Steelers veteran starters will not be playing. Topping the list of players that will not play is quarterback  Ben Roethlisberger. Even though Coach Tomlin has not ruled any one out the likely hood of players such as   receiver Antonio Brown, running backs Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams, and center Maurkice Pouncey playing is  marginal. Tomlin did go on to say that it’s ‘reasonable’ receiver Markus Wheaton, cornerback Artie Burns, linebacker Travis Feeney and defensive tackle Roy Philon will not play because of lack of time on the field due to their injuries. “I’m going to put together a schedule of participation for those guys but that schedule probably won’t be in this first preseason game,” said Tomlin. “We’re going play it by ear and deal with their overall readiness toward the regular season on a week-to-week basis, but they won’t be participating this week.”

Jimmie Johnson reveals Darlington Throw Back Scheme

Hendrick Motorsports unveiled the No. 48 Chevrolet that Jimmie Johnson will drive Labor Day weekend at Darlington Raceway on Wednesday, flashing a throwback paint scheme that pays tribute to NASCAR Hall of Famers David Pearson and Dale Earnhardt.

Johnson’s car will maintain primary sponsorship by Lowe’s Home Improvement for theBojangles’ Southern 500 on Sept. 4, but with a retro-themed look for NASCAR’s annual throwback weekend. The blue-and-yellow paint scheme is reminiscent of the No. 2 entries that Rod Osterlund once fielded for Earnhardt and Pearson in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
