Delay makes showdown bigger for undefeated Steelers, Titans
By TERESA M. WALKER AP Pro Football Writer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have been through so much dealing with the NFL’s first COVID-19 outbreak during the season resulting in one game postponed and rescheduled to a second game pushed to a rare Tuesday night kickoff. Now they host one of the NFL’s two other remaining undefeated teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers finally coming to town Sunday to play that first game postponed by the coronavirus pandemic. The Titans also heard the talk they should be punished, even Steelers tight end Eric Ebron’s call to make them forfeit. Titans linebacker Rashaan Evans says this is the type of game players want.

Third-ranked Notre Dame takes a 10-game winning streak to Pittsburgh to face the struggling Panthers. The Fighting Irish are coming off a sluggish 12-7 victory over Louisville but moved up to third in the polls anyway following Georgia’s loss to Alabama. Pitt has dropped three straight since a 3-0 start and could play without quarterback Kenny Pickett, who is nursing an ankle injury. The game features one of the nation’s best offensive lines against a Pitt defense that leads the country in sacks. Notre Dame has won 5 of the 6 six meetings between the schools.

No. 8 Penn State opens the highly-anticipated 2020 season Saturday at Indiana. It’s the latest season-opener for the Nittany Lions since 1918 when they didn’t open until Nov. 2 because of the influenza pandemic. The Hoosiers are coming off their first eight-win season since 1993 and are looking for their first upset of a top-10 team since a 31-10 blowout at Ohio State in 1987. Penn State could be without starting running back Journey Brown. Coach James Franklin says Brown could miss the entire season with an undisclosed medical condition that was diagnosed during an unusual offseason. If Brown doesn’t play, Noah Cain and Devyn Ford would be the likely replacements.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Richard Petty Motorsports will enter the next chapter of its storied history with driver Erik Jones. The pairing gives Petty a proven winner to replace Bubba Wallace. Wallace is leaving at the end of the season. His departure could have crippled the cash-strapped Petty organization, but the team instead landed one of the top available talents. Jones was released after six seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing because the megateam needed a seat for a new prospect. The volatile free-agent market helped Jones slide to Petty.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger, Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers left the Tampa Bay Rays stuck in neutral to open a surreal World Series. Kershaw was dominant for six innings, Bellinger and Betts homered and the Dodgers beat the Rays 8-3 in the first World Series game played at a neutral site. A crowd of just over 11,000 in Arlington, Texas, was limited by the coronavirus and marked the smallest attendance for baseball’s top event in 111 years. Game 2 is Wednesday night.

Steelers Devin Bush Knee Injury Ends his 2020 Season

Pittsburgh second-year inside linebacker Devin Bush sustained what coach Mike Tomlin called a “significant knee injury” in Pittsburgh’s 38-7 rout of the Browns on Sunday.

Bush, who had not missed a defensive snap all season, injured his left knee in the second quarter when he took an awkward step while attempting to break up a pass.

“Devin is a great player,” Steelers outside linebacker Bud Dupree said. “He’s one of the most underrated guys on the team, one of the fastest guys on the team, so anytime you lose somebody like that, it’s a big blow. But (Robert) Spillane came in and did well. He communicated well. Prayers up for Devin as he goes through recovery.”

Justin Haley to return to Kaulig in Xfinity Series in 2021

Justin Haley to return to Kaulig in Xfinity Series in 2021
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Justin Haley will return to Kaulig Racing for a third season in the Xfinity Series. The team announced the one-year contract extension with a clever social media post in which fan favorite AJ Allmendinger briefly teased that he would be the driver of the No. 11 Chevrolet next year. Instead, Allmendinger peeled the tape off the car to reveal Haley’s name. The extension delays an expected promotion for Haley to a full-time Cup Series ride with Spire Motorsports. Haley could still run races in NASCAR’s top series next year but will contend for the Xfinity Series title with Kaulig.
