Lawrence “Larry” Richard Kroner (September 8, 1940 – July 13, 2024)

Lawrence “Larry” Kroner, 83 of Conway, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospice Care in Wexford. Born September 8, 1940, to Lawrence R. and Vivian W. Noland Kroner, Larry grew up in Leetsdale before moving to Leet Township, where he resided for 46 years.

Larry lived a life of service to his family, country, and community.  In the Marine Corps from 1958-61 (Oorah!), Larry continued to be a proud “Jarhead” throughout his life thanking and talking with every fellow Marine he met.

He served Ohio River Valley Little League as a Coach and Manager. He was the Leetsdale Parade Chairman in the early 80s, a Lifetime Member of the Leetsdale Volunteer Fire Department, and a proud member of The American Legion.

Larry worked for J&L Steel, Quaker Valley Transportation, and the Edgeworth Water Authority — where he retired as Manager after 34 years of service.

He was a devout Catholic and member of St. James Catholic Church Sewickley, ushered for over 60 years, and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

In his free time, you could find Larry bowling, golfing with the Leetsdale Civic Club, working on antique cars, or attending his grandchildren’s athletic and academic events. Later in life, he began building birdhouses — a fitting reflection of himself — as he often referred to them as, “One of a kind … No two alike.”  Larry always kept a repertoire of jokes on hand and lived life “Taking it one day at a time.”

He was often found in the stands or his favorite recliner “assisting” coaches from Quaker Valley, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, the University of Notre Dame, and/or the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He was a staunch supporter of the Pittsburgh Pirates and is grateful they kept his blood pressure from getting too low.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife Joan (d. 1996), and sisters Bernice (Jim) Charlton, and Laraine (Terry) Larimer.

He is survived by his wife Maureen Daily, Conway, PA; brother Don, Phoenix, AZ; two children Keith (Christine) Kroner, Sewickley, Kristen (David) Fisher Cranberry Twp; grandchildren Courtney, Emily, Ryan, Troy and Payton.  Maureen’s children, Tim and Erin Carte, grandchildren Tyler and Katelyn Carte, great-granddaughter Sadie Bjelivuk, his many nieces/nephews, and his loyal canine companion, Murphy.

The Kroner family would like to thank Drs. Fuchs, Schillo, Malkowski, their respective staff, and the nurses on the 7th floor of Heritage Valley-Sewickley for their care and compassion throughout the years.  A special thank you is extended to the hospice staff of Good Samaritan Hospice care nurses, Jenn, Jessica, Jaimie, Lenore, and Angie.

The family will receive guests on Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. in the John Syka Funeral Home, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, from where a prayer service will be conducted Saturday at 9:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. in the St. James Catholic Church, Sewickley – Divine Redeemer Parish.  Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospice Care, 116 Browns Hill Road, Valencia, PA 16059.
