Bart Trautvetter (1959-2025)

Bart Trautvetter, 65, of South Beaver Township, passed away unexpectedly on September 9th, 2025.

He was born in Darlington on October 27th, 1959. He is survived by his children: Christopher Trautvetter, Chadd (Ariel) Trautvetter, Charlee (Leroy) Williams and Virginia (Josh) Gibbs. He deeply loved his grandchildren: Preston, Jayce, and Kera, Lyriq, and Leroy Jr.; as well as his grand-raccoon, Rigby: who brought him immense joy and with whom he shared many lessons, from target practice to words of wisdom. He is also survived by his mother, Peggy (Trautvetter) Taylor and was preceded in death by his father, Mervyn Trautvetter, his stepfather, David Taylor, his brothers, Mark and Curt Trautvetter, and his in-laws, Jack and Esther Stout. He is also survived by his stepchildren and his wife, Marcie, as well as his niece, Melissa (Brian) Koah. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend and former wife, Darla (Les), who remained an important part of his life as the mother of his children.

Bart was raised on his family’s dairy farm, where he developed a lifelong passion for farming and hard work. He continued that legacy by running the family dairy farm and tending crops throughout South Beaver Township. Above all, Bart was proud to be a father and grandfather.

Bart will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of the land, and the pride he took in passing down knowledge and traditions to the next generation.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 19th from  2-4 P.M. & 6-8 P.M. in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, Inc., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, who was in charge of his arrangements and where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 11 A.M.

Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, 139 Norwood Drive, Beaver Falls.

Irene C. Rowan (1936-2025)

Irene C. Rowan, 89, of Brighton Township, formerly of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on September 5th, 2025, at Cambridge Village of Beaver Falls. She was born in Rochester on July 31st, 1936, the daughter of the late Karl E. Sr. and Dorothea Holsinger Kelbaugh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Hartley, her second husband, Harold L. Rowan Jr., a son, Karl Hartley and a grandson, Matthew Hartley. She is survived by two sons, Jon Hartley, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Jason Hartley, of Huntsville, Alabama, as well as five grandsons: Jeremy and Austin Hartley, Tim Bowes and Shane Hartley and Marshall Hartley; as well as three great-granddaughters, Alora, Raven and Addyson, one sister and brother-in-law, Denise K. and John Wilson of Brighton Township and one brother and sister-in-law, Karl E. Jr. and Caroline Kelbaugh of West Hurley, New York. Irene was a retired Travel Agent in North Carolina as well as being a part of Cruise Planners Company who loved traveling. She was a graduate of Rochester Area High School’s class of 1954 who was a band majorette and drum major. She was Lutheran by faith and was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rochester. She was an immense lover of animals, especially dogs. Irene’s wish was to be cremated with no viewing or service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the William Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., 349 Adams Street, Rochester. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, 1 Memorial Avenue, Fort Myer, Virginia. William “Bill” Pifer (1952-2025)

William “Bill” Pifer, 72, of Bell Acres, passed away on September 9th, 2025. He was born on December 13th, 1952, a son of the late Robert and Catherine Pifer.

He is survived by his devoted partner, Lorene McKissic, his son, Jason McKissic, his siblings, Robert (Linda) Pifer, Karen (Dennis) Rogers, and Susan (Tom) Cunningham; along with two grandchildren, Kaytlyn and Colin McKissic, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

William was a graduate of Quaker Valley High School who enjoyed playing cards with friends, traveling with Lorene to Jamaica, and cheering on Pittsburgh sports teams.

Services are private and services and arrangements have been entrusted to Alvarez-Hahn Funeral Services and Cremation, LLC, 547 8th Street, Ambridge.

Sylvia Solero Basich (1938-2025)

Sylvia Solero Basich, 87, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of her community, passed away surrounded by her family on September 10th, 2025. She was born in Conway, Pennsylvania on March 18th, 1938. Her parents were Elliott and Helen Solero. Sylvia grew up in a loving family alongside her three sisters: Anelia, Linda, and Rita and her brother, Ramon.

Sylvia was a proud graduate of Freedom Area High School who carried her education and strong work ethic into a life of service. She was a longtime member of the Beaver County Legal Aid Association, where she dedicated countless hours to ensuring that individuals and families had access to the support and resources they needed. Her commitment to fairness, compassion, and justice touched the lives of many in her community. She was also a tireless leader in the Beaver County Housing Authority Tenants’ Council, where she served as president for many years. She was especially passionate about creating opportunities for children. Through the programs, she organized, she made it possible for countless children to enjoy summer trips, experiences, and moments of joy they might not have otherwise had. Sylvia was more than a leader to the families of the Tenants’ Council: she was a friend, a mentor, and a steady source of love and encouragement. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a faithful member of Good Samaritan Catholic Church of Ambridge, where she found strength, comfort, and community. Above all, Sylvia’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to Darren (Diane) Basich and Jason Basich, a proud grandmother to Darren (Erica), Kelsey Basich Hilton (Zachery), and Jacob Basich and his significant other, Navada Harris, and a doting great-grandmother to Nyelle and Naomi Basich. Her family will remember her not only for her tireless devotion and strength, but for her kindness, humor, and the countless ways she showed her love each day. Sylvia’s life was a beautiful example of faith in action: always giving, always serving, always caring for others before herself. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, in her community, and in the family who loved her deeply. She will be forever missed, but her spirit of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Visitation will take place on Monday, September 15th from 10 A.M. until the time of a blessing service at Noon at the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, who was in charge of her arrangements. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery of Freedom, Pennsylvania.

Jeannine B. Quay Howarth (1931-2025)

Jeannine B. Quay Howarth, 94, of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Beaver, passed away on September 8th, 2025.
She was born in Rochester on April 24th, 1931, the daughter of the late Carl and Marie Brunner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her three children, William Quay. She is survived by her husband, Harold J. Howarth of Tucson, Arizona, her sons: William Quay, John Quay, Harold Howarth III, David Howarth; as well as her daughters, Nancy Kasparek and Lynette Howarth; six grand-children and nine great-grandchildren. Jeannine was a Beaver School Graduate in 1949 and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Beaver. She worked as a nurse’s aide and worked as a secretary. She was employed at times at Beaver Medical Center and Suburban General Hospitals in the Cardiac Department. She was affiliated with numerous organizations. She was the member and president of Rochester Hospital Auxiliary. She was affiliated with the CAT Club, Beaver Valley Country Club, Seven Oaks Country Club, Southern AZ Symphony Orchestra, Tohona Chull Park Docent and SaddleBrooke Golf Association. She was also an instructor at Ikebana Ichiyo Japanese Flower School. In her free time, she traveled to Europe, Africa, Asia and Central America. She also enjoyed going into Pittsburgh to attend the Pittsburgh Playhouse, the Pittsburgh Public Theater and the Pittsburgh Symphony. This continued in Arizona where she attended the Arizona Theater Company. She also volunteered at North West Hospital in Tucson, Arizona.
Private burial will occur at Beaver Cemetery, Buffalo Street, Beaver, PA 15009.

Beverly J. Brock (1930-2025)

Beverly J. Brock, 95, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, formerly of South Beaver Township, passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2025, at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph of Baden.

She was born in Beaver Falls on January 9th, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles R. and B. Isabel (Wright) Jamison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Richard D. Brock, Sr. and a son, Richard D. Brock, Jr. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Christine B. Luikart, Esq. (retired) and her husband, Gary A. Luikart, her grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Harvey and Zachary (Karen) Harvey, her great-grandchildren, Alexis, Caden, Cole, Allison, and Ethan; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Beverly was a 1948 graduate of Rochester High School and worked for many years as a secretary for Dr. Julius Vogel in Beaver. The most important thing to Beverly was her family: her husband, two children, two grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. She was also a member of Chippewa United Methodist Church. She was also an animal lover who especially oved dogs.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 10th from 11 A.M. until the time of a brief chapel service at 1 P.M. at the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, who was in charge of her arrangements.

Jennifer L. Davies Barnard (Passed on September 6th, 2025)

Jennifer L. Davies Barnard, 50, of Center Township, passed away on September 6th, 2025, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh after a long battle with an illness.

Jennifer was raised in Center Township (Stobo) and was a graduate of Center Area High School. She began her career at GNC in Leetsdale. It was there that she met the love of her life, David C. Barnard, Jr. The couple married in November of 1995 and shared a beautiful journey together until David’s passing on October 7th, 2019.

Jennifer later channeled her hardworking nature into the hospitality industry, serving as a waitress at several different restaurants at the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Family was the cornerstone of Jennifer’s world. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ronald L. and Johanna L. Gillin Davies, her cherished husband, David, her brothers, Ronald D. Davies and David “Buck” Davies and her sister-in-law Debra Ann Davies. Her legacy continues through her loving children, Ian, Ryan, and Alexis Barnard, who will forever be inspired by her optimism and resilience. Jennifer is also survived by her siblings, Michael and Jimmy Davies, Lori (Walter) Reynolds, and Joni (John) Vetterly, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She and David relished the times spent watching cooking shows on the Food Network. She was a loyal Pittsburgh Penguins fan and her enthusiasm for her team was as steadfast as her support for her loved ones. She found solace in the beaches of St. Petersburg, Florida, where she vacationed.

Her artistic nature was another facet of her personality. Jennifer had the ability to draw and paint, capturing the beauty of the world as she saw it.

Jennifer’s journey through life was marked by her indomitable spirit. Even in the face of illness, she remained vigilant, never allowing it to dim her bright outlook. Those who knew her will remember Jennifer as the nicest person, one who uplifted others with her unwavering positivity.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 14th from 2-6 P.M. with a service to follow at the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, who was in charge of her arrangements.

Samuel “Sam” Clifford Bevington (1961-2025)

Samuel “Sam” Clifford Bevington, 64, of Darlington, passed away on September 7th, 2025 at Providence Health and Rehabilitation Center of Beaver Falls.

He was born in New Brighton on March 6th, 1961, a son of the late Donald and Nancy (Stone) Bevington, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Jo Bevington, his in-laws, Richard and Donna Straub, and an infant daughter Sarah Marie Bevington. He is survived by his three children, Angela (Bill) Ringling, Kristy (Greg Conaway) Bevington and Daniel Bevington, four grandchildren: Alivia Ringling, Sam Ringling, Billy Ringling and Mia Hobbs; as well as his siblings: Don (Toni) Bevington, Bob (Bonnie) Bevington, Sue (Bill) Brown, and Sandy (Jim) Feezle; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Samuel and his wife began their own company, Bevington Trucking in 1998 which he worked at for over 20 years. In his later years, he enjoyed helping his son with his tree trimming business called Treeworx. He loved hunting and going to camp with his loved ones. He found joy raising cattle, playing cards, and cooking over the campfire for his family. He also adored spending time with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Friends will be received  on Friday, September 12th from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, Inc. 117 Blackhawk Road Beaver Falls, who was in charge of his arrangements. A luncheon following visitation will be announced by the family.

Private interment will take place at Duff Cemetery, 293 East Palestine Road, Darlington.

Carol Ann Matthews (1943-2025)

Carol Ann Matthews, 82, of Independence Township, passed away on September 6th, 2025.

She was born in Rochester on July 5th, 1943, a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Ellen (Riley) Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles Robert “Chuck” Matthews and a son-in-law, Tom Polster. She is survived by her four daughters: Christine (Dan) McLaughlin, Suzanne (Dennis) Rich, Colleen (Mike) Matthews, and Michelle Polster; as well as her grandchildren: Brandon, Zackery, Madison (Chad), Thomas, Jonathan, Luc (Kristine), and Joshua; along with a great-granddaughter, Maci, her sister, Susan Jones, a sister-in-law, Linda Matthews and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Carol was a member of Prince of Peace Anglican Church of Aliquippa. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed spending time working on the flowers in her yard.

In accordance with Carol’s wishes, she will be cremated.

A joint Celebration of the lives of Carol and her late husband Charles will be held at Prince of Peace Anglican Church, 1314 Gringo Road, Aliquippa at a later date.

Joseph S. Moritz, Jr. (1952-2025)

Joseph S. Moritz Jr., 73, of Brighton Township, passed away on September 6th, 2025 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Rochester on July 15th, 1952, the son of the late Joseph S. Sr. and Marylou Pratte Moritz. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Jo Burchett Moritz, two sons and daughters-in-law and three daughters and sons-in-law: Dr. Joseph S. III and Natalie Moritz, of Dillinger, Pennsylvania, Katy J. and Bill Mittica-Cunningham, Michelle J. and Rudolf Diesing, all of Brighton Township, Nicole J. and Andy Smith, of Indiana Township, Pennsylvania, and John J. and Kristin, of Brighton Township; as well as ten grandchildren: Joe Henry and Sam Moritz, Josey and Roland Moritz, Dominic and Michael Mittica, Rudolf and Mason Diesing, Jonah and Luke Smith; along with a sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Rick Hughes of Brighton Township, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jennifer and William Penny of Rochester, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joseph was a retired electrician with the former St. Joe Zinc Corporation and also retired from LTV Steel of Aliquippa. He was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Vietnam War and a member of Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church of Beaver, part of Our Lady Of The Valley Parish. He found his greatest joy in the simple things: being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working on projects in his garage. Whether building something with his hands or sharing a laugh with family, he poured his heart into everything he did. Above all, his family was the most important part of his life and he leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and devotion that will forever be cherished. A private family gathering for Joseph will be held on Friday, September 12th, at the William Murphy Funeral Home Inc., 349 Adams Street, Rochester, who was in charge of his arrangements and where a blessing service will follow that service. Officiating will be Father Howard Campbell. Interment will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery, 761 Allendale Road, New Brighton. The family wishes memorial contributions be made to the New Horizon School PTO, 128 Friendship Circle, Beaver, PA 15009 in honor of his grandson, Dominic.
