Stella G. (Bialek) Wasco, age 106, died peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in McKees Rocks, she was the fourth of seven children born to Polish immigrant parents Stanley and Mary (Gill) Bialek. She attended Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic School and was a 1934 graduate of Miles Bryan High School in McKees Rocks. She was a former member of Good Samaritan Parish in Amdridge. Stella married her beloved husband, Charles  Wasco in 1944 and enjoyed 44 years of a beautiful marriage until his passing in 1988. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and her husband were her cherished son, Charles Stanley Wasco in 1961, brothers, Walter S. Bialek and Frank M. Bialek, both of McKees Rocks, and sisters and brother-in-laws, Josephine  and Boleslaus Balawajder, Port Author, TX, Helen and Harry Lubinski, Sr. McKees Rocks, Evelyn and Frank Mastalerz, Charleston, WV, and a niece, Loretta B. Handley (the late William), Portland, OR. While raising her children, Stella was involved in community activities and scouting and supporting her husband’s involvement with the Leetsdale Fire Department. She was a woman of faith and family and fostering her Polish heritage. Stella retired from the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Leetsdale where she served as secretary from its inception. In 1979, she was the first woman in Pennsylvania to receive the PMAA Sahli Award given in recognition of longtime service. Retirement years were spent traveling with her family, enjoying cruises, Walt Disney World, and summers in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Stella is survived by her devoted daughter, Mary Jane Wasco of Sewickley and her cherished sister, Lucille Bialek Bradley (late brother-in-law, Kenneth) of Denver, CO along with devoted nieces, nephews, their spouses, and their children from both the Bialek and Wasco families. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, January 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge where prayers will be offered on Thursday, January 18 at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at Divine Redeemer Parish, St. James Catholic Church, 200 Walnut Street, Sewickley. Her former pastor, Father Thomas J. Burke will concelebrate the Mass along with her pastor, Father Brian W. Noel. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Twp. In lieu of flowers, it was Stella’s request that memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Divine Redeemer Parish, 200 Walnut Street, Sewickley, PA, 15143 or to the Leetsdale Garden Club, 373 Beaver Street, Leetsdale, PA 15056.

Eleanor M. Burhenn, 95, of Chippewa Township, died on Tuesday, January

9, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley – Beaver.

Born on May 31, 1928, in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of the late

August and Angela (Lucini) Panucci.

Eleanor had been employed in the accounting department at Duquesne

Light. She was a member of St. Monica Church of St. Augustine Parish.

She was a member St. Monica’s VSP. She enjoyed playing cards,

traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband,

George David Burhenn.

She is survived by her children; Nanette (M. Brian) Boggs and David (Kristi)

Burhenn; grandchildren, Maura (Dan) Hoffman, Christian Boggs, Cameron

Boggs, Brooke Burhenn, and Ben Burhenn; two great-grandchildren, Mila

and George Hoffman.

Precious son and brother, Joshua Paul Coen, went to be with Jesus on January 10, 2024, at the age of 43, following a life of multiple disabilities and illnesses.

Joshua was born on January 31, 1980, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Spending most of his life in the loving care of McGuire Memorial home in New Brighton, PA, Joshua loved to spend time with his caregivers, family, and fellow friends. McGuire, along with his family, treasured Joshua’s life as a precious gift from the Lord. His smile and joy brought happiness to each person who knew him. Joshua especially enjoyed listening to music, being talked to, and had a sweet tooth for strawberry milk! Joshua is survived by his parents, Larry and Laura Coen of Jefferson City, MO, sister Rebekah Harnett (spouse Greg, and children Hailey and Jackson) of Plainfield, IL., sister Rachael Cox (spouse Christopher) of Holts Summit, MO., along with aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends will be received, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 9 a.m. until 10:45 at McGuire Memorial, 2119 Mercer Road, New Brighton, Pa 15066.  A Homegoing service will follow at 11 a.m., with Deacon Tom Turney, officiating.

William E. Haywiser III, 69, of New Brighton, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in the comfort of his home.
Born on December 30, 1954, in Rochester, PA, he was the son of the late William E. Haywiser and Mary L. Tilton.
Bill was a Jack of All Trades and had been a security guard for Bruce Mansfield, as well as drove bus. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, Debi, hunting, and being outdoors. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Debi (Lasko) Haywiser; his siblings, Ken Haywiser, Jonathan “Wayne” Downey, Cindy Parkinson, and Chris (Michael Sly) Tharp; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends will be received on Monday, January 14th from 2-5PM at the GABAUAER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1133 Penn Ave., New Brighton. The Beaver County Special Unit will accord military honors at 4:30PM.

Linda Kay Martin Hoffman went home to be with her Heavenly Father on January 10^th, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Linda was born in New Brighton on December 12^th, 1947.  Linda was a graduate of New Brighton High School class of 1965.  She studied at Garfield Business Institute.  She had numerous jobs in her lifetime, but her most rewarding was her last one as a caretaker for a wonderful gentleman whom she cared for very deeply.

She enjoyed thrifting, yard saling, crafting and going to the casino.  Her biggest enjoyment of all was activities that her grandchildren were involved in.

She is preceded in death by her parents Nick Martin Jr. and Helen Johnson Martin, Father-in-law Wade R. Hoffman and Mother-in-law Irene A. Hoffman, Brother-in-laws Ronald Hoffman, Wade (Buzz) Hoffman, Harry (Mickey) Hoffman, and Daniel P. Macuga.

Linda is survived by her husband Charles L. Hoffman of 56 years, Daughter Jamie Hoffman Hysong and Son-in-law Bernard Hysong, Son Chris Hoffman and Daughter-in-law Carrie Gantz Hoffman, Her grandchildren Chase Hoffman, Callie Hoffman (Cameron), Brody Hysong, Brynn Hysong, Sister Cindy Martin Macuga, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda’s wishes were to be cremated.  Arrangements are entrusted to Gabauer-Lutton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, inc.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Janet Rarick, 80, of Patterson Twp., died Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, at Concordia of Franklin Park.
Born April 7, 1943, in New Brighton, she was the daughter of the late John and Sara (Derflinger) Rarick. Janet was a 1961 graduate of New Brighton High School, Clarion University, and the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned her master’s in library science.
She served as an officer for the American University Women’s Association—a lifelong member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church, New Brighton, where she served as a deacon.
Janet retired from Norwin School District, where she served as the librarian. Janet was a kind person who loved to travel to the western US, Ireland, England, & Scotland. She had a passion for buying family and friends unique gifts, which often included books, and was truly knowledgeable in genealogy about her family. She loved helping others, connecting them with their families they had never known, and finding lost information about their genealogy. Janet also enjoyed her monthly luncheon with her 1961 classmates.
She is survived by her brother, John Rarick (friend Norene Kniess), longtime companion Bill Ruskowitz, a nephew, Joshua M. (Kathryn) Rarick, two great-nephews, Caleb & Samson, and great-niece Hannah.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Rarick, and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Rarick.

Bonnie L. Morell, age 84, of New Sewickley Township, formerly of Rochester Township, passed away Tuesday January 9, 2024 at her home; with her loving son Pat and his fiancé Cass at her side. Bonnie was born August 22nd 1939 in Unionville, New Sewickley Township. She is the daughter of the late Morris S. and Florence Hart Pfeifer. She was a retired Elementary School teacher for 35 years with the Freedom Area School District, Big Knob Elementary School. She was a member of the New Sewickley Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Woman. She was a graduate of New Brighton High School in 1957, received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas El Paso. She was a volunteer with the Heritage Valley Beaver Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband John E. “Doc” Morell, 2021. She is also preceded by a favorite cousin Judy Kuchinski. Bonnie is survived by one son, J. Patrick Morell and his fiancé Cass Judd of Lexington, KY and one brother and sister-in-law John and Virginia Pfeifer of Patterson Heights, PA. She is also survived by her first cousin Genevieve Zahn Thomas of San Antonio, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Robert “Bob” Arthur May, 74, of Koppel, died on Monday, January 8, 2024, in the comfort of his home.

Born on August 2, 1949, in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Clarence “Pun” May and Gladys May.  Bob was predeceased by his brother, Clarence “Pete” May; sister ZoAnn May; and sister Patricia May.

Bob held many jobs in his lifetime, some of which included being a mechanic, logging, and a general laborer.  He was a member of Valley Baptist Church, and was an avid outdoorsman, loving to cut firewood for the winter months.  Bob enjoyed tinkering on anything mechanical in the garage and spending time with his friends and family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Susan (Thompson) May; children, Pam (Kirk) Rekasie, Karen (Jonathan) Glass, and Eva (David Jr.) Opina-Ledford; his sisters, Nita Jane Bevington and Judy Hage; grandchildren, Michael Ledford, Joshua Ross, Banjamin Ross, Joe Campbell, Clark Campbell, Jonathan Glass, Elizabeth Sage, Katherine Jamroz, and Clarissa Glass; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Sage; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends will be received on Sunday, January 14^th from 1-4PM in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., Chippewa Twp., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls.

Tony Eichelberger, Sewickley, PA, (son of late Tony and Eva [Brown] Eichelberger) was born on April 15, 1940, in Pekin, Illinois, and passed away on January 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy.  Tony, Professor Emeritus, University of Pittsburgh, received his Ph.D. at Southern Illinois University.  He is survived by his wife, Rita Bean; two children, Erin, of Tucson, Arizona, and Derek (Barbara) Eichelberger, Wexford, PA.; and 3 grandchildren (Ethan, Ava, and Dylan).  He has three surviving sisters: Jean (Whitson) McClain and Sally Caracheo (both from Chicago area), and Alosia (Ron) Carlson, Salt Lake City. Tony is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Tony had a long and distinguished career at the University, teaching, conducting research,  and writing articles that were published in national journals.  His book, Disciplined Inquiry: Understanding and Doing Educational Research, was based on a course that he taught at the University. He reflected on the notes from his course outline and then wrote the book long-hand from those notes.   One of Tony’s greatest professional strengths was his ability to challenge and encourage his graduate students, providing them with thoughtful feedback about their work.

As the only son of a “baseball” family, Tony was involved in playing baseball at an early age, following in the footsteps of his father and uncles who all played in local ball clubs.  He was also an outstanding basketball player for the Pekin High School Team (1956-1958), and then went on to accept a baseball scholarship at the University of Illinois.  Tony’s athletic career also included playing minor league baseball for the Giants organization. Given Tony’s love for baseball, he and Rita traveled to Omaha and attended the College World Series for 30+ years.  Tony was an avid golfer, and proud that in his mid-seventies, he was able to shoot his age.   He loved to tell stories about his athletic experiences, including the fact that he batted against Satchel Paige and Juan Marichal.

What Tony valued most, however, was family, not only his immediate family, but also his Eichelberger relatives. The Eichelberger reunions were always a joy to attend, with time spent reconnecting, and memories shared.  Tony spoke often of what he learned as a child, the love that he experienced, and the values that he was taught.  Those values were exemplified in the way he lived. He was a generous, accepting, and compassionate person, a wonderful father and husband.    The family wishes to thank the doctor and nurses at Good Samaritan Hospice, Wexford, for the loving care that they provided for Tony and for our family. A memorial service is being planned at Heinz Chapel for May, 2024.

Robert Hlista, 75, a resident of Brighton Rehab and Wellness Center, Brighton Twp., formerly of Baden, died Friday, January 5, 2024. He was born on March 4, 1948 in Ambridge, to the late Stephen Hlista, Sr. and Elizabeth (Tomko) Hlista. He is survived by his brother, Stephen Hlista, Jr. of Baden, aunt, Ann Neish of Center Twp., nieces, Valerie Neish of Center Twp., Rachael Hlista of Coraopolis and a nephew, Anthony (Lexi) Hlista of Bethel Park. There was no public visitation. Private burial will take place in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc. Ambridge, PA.
