Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Will Address The U.S. Congress Today

(Washington, D.C) Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address the U.S. Congress today. This is the next stop as the actor-turned wartime leader uses the Western world’s great legislative bodies as a global stage to help his country. In ringing speeches, he is rallying support against Russia’s crushing invasion. The speech Today will be livestreamed into the U.S. Capitol and will be among his most important as he pushes the U.S. to do more than it has so far pledged to do. President Joe Biden has resisted his requests to send warplanes to Ukraine. Instead, Biden is expected deliver an address later today announcing $800 million in additional security assistance for Ukraine.

SCRAPPY LADY DOGS WIN AND FREEDOM MOVES ON 56 50

In a game full of defense and turnovers Freedom and River Valley played an exciting basketball game that was broadcast here on Beaver County Radio, the game was controlled by Freedom in the first half getting shots and rebounds and getting through River Valleys tuff full court press. That all changed in the third quarter when river valleys press started to take affect on the lady Bulldogs, which Freedom turned the ball over more than 11 times and only scored 3 points  with 3 minutes left in the 3rd River Valley had now taken a 5 point lead. Freedom was able to close it to 39 38 and in the 4th keep it in a very up and down game with many lead changes right down to the final minute it was a total team effort and the Freedom Lady Bulldogs win and they will meet North Catholic for the 4th time this season.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Candidates are down to the final hours before the deadline to file paperwork to get on Pennsylvania’s primary ballots, as large fields are shaping up for the open governor’s office and U.S. Senate seat. Tuesday’s 5 p.m. filing deadline to make Pennsylvania’s May 17 primary ballot also applies to races for lieutenant governor and Congress. This year’s election is the first time in decades that Pennsylvania has its governor’s office and a U.S. Senate seat on the same ballot with no incumbent running. That has sparked heavy interest in contests that are viewed as wide open. Almost 20 candidates have filed for those two offices alone.

Former State Attorney General Kane Faces Scranton DUI Charge

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s former top state prosecutor was arrested over the weekend and is expected to be formally charged with driving under the influence. Scranton police said Monday that 55-year-old Kathleen Kane was involved in a two-vehicle crash in the city at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Police haven’t released details about the crash. Until charges are filed there’s no paperwork with information about the investigation. Kane, 55, was the first Democrat and remains the only woman to have been elected as the state’s attorney general. While in office, she leaked grand jury documents about a civil rights leader and a jury found she lied to the grand jury investigating the leak. She served more than eight months.

Hopewell Twp. Police Investigating Possible DUI Involved Accident

Hopewell Township Police were dispatched to the area of Brodhead Road known as Bucktail  Hill Monday night, March 14, 2022, at 8 p.m. for a possible DUI-related accident according to Police Chief Don Sedlacek. No further information was  available at this time as police continue to investigate.

(Monaca, Pa.) Beaver County 9-1-1 reported that  they received a call at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, March 15, 2022,  for reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle  in the area of King’s pool and Spa on Beaver Avenue in Monaca. According to the report  the injured party for transported to a hospital for injuries .

Two Aliquippa Men Indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on Drug Violations

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced on Monday   that the federal grand jury in Pittsburgh indicted a former and current Aliquippa resident on charges of violating federal narcotic laws. The two-count indictment  was returned on March 8, 2022 and unsealed Monday named Kijana Stephaun Lowe, 24  a former resident, and current resident Tusweet Smith, Jr, 23, along with others from New York and Philadelphia.
According to the indictment around May 2021 until around November 2021  the defendants conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 5 kilos or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine, and 400 grams or more  of a mixture containing a detectable amount of  fentanyl.
The men could face imprisonment of a maximum of  not less than 10 years to life and a  fine of $10,000 or both  The  investigation was conducted by the PA Attorney General’s office and the DEA leading to the indictment.

(Beaver Falls, Pa.) The Beaver Falls Business District Authority has announced it’s winners of the 2nd Annual Beaver Falls Pro Bowl Chili Walk-off that was held on Saturday February 12, 2022. We here at Beaver County Radio have our chest pushed out a little in pride today as Mark Peterson’s Famous Chuck’s Chili placed fourth in the competition. Peterson’s chili is named after local legend and radio pioneer Chuck “Waxie” Wilson who spoke the first words on Beaver County Radio back on May 25, 1948. Chuck’s Chili featured Hickory Smoked “Chuck” Roast, Broadcast Bacon, Radio Red Peppers, Transmitter Tomatoes and more.
The only important thing is that we placed fourth but the other winners were, first place was a tie between McMahon’s Harley Davidson and The Beaver Falls Library, second was Wolfe’s Clothing Store, third was the Beaver Falls Fire Department, fourth Beaver County Radio and Fifth Jumet Financial.
Jodi Blank from Helisek Contracting presented Beaver County Radio Station Manager Mark Peterson and Program Director Frank Sparks with their fourth place trophy Monday afternoon.
