The cases of sexually transmitted diseases has risen to a record high in the United States. According to figures released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent, the number of combined cases of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia in the United States rose to a record high last year. More than 2.4 million syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia infections were reported in the United States in 2018. That’s an increase of more than 100,000 cases from the previous year. It attributed the increase to several factors, including a decline in condom use among young people and men who have sex with men; increased screening among some groups; and cuts to sexual health programs at the state and local level.

Though relatively brief, the County Commissioners did receive a pair of important updates at their weekly work session on Wednesday, October 9.

First was an update from DPW director Dan Colville about the future of the main road that is used in access to Brush Creek Park:

 

At some point, the lack or lacking level of understanding when it came to the issues surrounding the state of Brush Creek pinned the frustrations of North Sewickley and Marion Township residents with that of the Commissioners. But if this meeting was any indication, those feelings might have dissipated. One Marion resident was quick to give praise to both Colville and the Commissioners:

 

Also at the work session, an update several months in the making was finally announced. Julie Bowers talked about how the group Workin’ Bridges, in coordination with PennDot, has made improvements in the Watts Mills Bridge area in South Beaver Township:

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a Pennsylvania homeowner who heard someone singing inside his home found a naked man drinking milk in his kitchen. Erie police say the homeowner heard the singing early Monday. He grabbed his pistol, went to investigate and soon found the man sitting on the kitchen floor. The homeowner called police and the man was taken into custody. It wasn’t clear how he entered the home or how long he had been in the residence. Authorities have not filed any charges against him so far.

Police believe a North Sewickley Township man shoved a woman into a television during an argument. Joshua Kennedy is accused of pushing the victim into the T-V, causing the woman to suffer shoulder injuries September 28th at their home on the 100-block of Belton Road. Kennedy’s preliminary hearing is set for October 11th.

Police charged a man who was allegedly performing a sexual act in the parking lot of the Westmoreland Mall. Officers questioned Brennan Touchet, and he admitted to the act. Officers charged him and released him. He is charged with indecent exposure, open lewdness, and disorderly conduct.

A New Castle man faces charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16 year old girl. According to police, 35 year old Roberto Gardner is being charged with sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault without consent of another along with a corruption of minors charge. The alleged incident took place in February of this year. Gardner was arraigned and placed in the Lawrence County Jail on five thousand dollars bond.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A woman who allegedly tried to carjack four vehicles in a Pittsburgh neighborhood _ including two owned by law enforcement officers _ was captured after police pursuit that ended in a crash. Nineteen-year-old Ajanay Watson faces numerous counts, including robbery and weapons charges. She was captured after the stolen car she was driving crashed Tuesday afternoon as she was being pursued by officers.
