BEAVER, PENNSYLVANIA, 9/26/22 – The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Beaver residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s^® on October 1, 2022 at the Gazebo at Irvine Park in Beaver. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the Opening Ceremony will begin at 9 a.m.

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease.

While plans are moving forward to host the Beaver Walk in person, the health and safety of participants, staff and volunteers remain the top priorities. The Alzheimer’s Association will continue to closely monitor CDC, state and local guidelines to ensure Walk events adhere to the latest recommendations.

“The Alzheimer’s Association draws dozenss of walkers and teams to the event each fall and it is a pivotal event to spread community awareness and concern for Alzheimer’s disease,” said Sara Giammarise, senior development director for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter. “We are looking forward to gathering with local families on Walk day who have been impacted by the disease, as we work together to inspire hope in the fight for a cure and move closer to our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.”

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

In Pennsylvania alone, there are more than 280,000 people living with the disease and 500,000 caregivers.

MONACA — Penn State Beaver will host a homecoming event in October to welcome
alumni and the community to the campus for a festive fall afternoon.
The homecoming and tailgate party, being held from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 15 in the center of campus, is open to Penn State Beaver alumni and the local community. The family friendly event will feature live music, food trucks, children’s activities and a corn hole tournament.
Local funk/blues band Bobby Thompson and the Groove will play from 3 to 5 p.m.
Thompson is a 2019 graduate of Penn State Beaver.
The cornhole tournament also will begin at 3 p.m. The tournament is double elimination, and the winners will receive a trophy and a gift basket. Pre-registration is preferred. Players can pre-register here.
“We are beyond excited to host homecoming on the Penn State Beaver campus,” Colleen Sherman, director of alumni relations and development, said. “We have a long weekend of activities planned to celebrate all things Penn State Beaver with our alumni, our community and our entire Penn State Beaver family.”
Penn State Beaver Lion Ambassadors also are invited to attend the Saturday event for a reunion. Lion Ambassadors represent the best of our campus. Students who participate in the cocurricular organization help during campus events and tours.
There are invitation-only events planned for Oct. 13 and 14 to engage students in
networking with alumni and to give alumni a chance to catch up with one another ahead of the Saturday event.
“Penn State Beaver’s homecoming event is one more example of how, as a
commonwealth campus of a land grant institution, we serve our community in so many ways,” Chancellor Dr. Jenifer Cushman said. “Through this effort, we are delighted to welcome local residents to enjoy our lovely campus and interact with Penn State alumni and friends.”
Everyone is invited to support the Penn State Beaver Women’s Volleyball team in their 5 p.m. homecoming match against New Kensington in the gym.
