The Cornerstone of Beaver County to Open Men’s Emergency Shelter in Vanport

(Beaver Falls, Pa.) The Cornerstone of Beaver County announced that they were selected by The Community Development Program of Beaver County to receive funding to acquire, rehabilitate, and operate a 24-hour men’s emergency shelter on behalf of the County.

$1,050,000 in county, state, and federal funding from the CARES Act for emergency housing have been allocated by the County for the project. Additional support comes from TCBC fundraising efforts.

The men’s emergency shelter will fill a critical gap in Beaver County’s housing-related crisis solutions as there are currently no in-county shelters that accept men.

A statement provided by the Beaver County Board of Commissioners said, “The men’s emergency shelter is an important next step in Beaver County’s commitment to addressing homelessness. The shelter and its supportive services will provide life-saving and transformational solutions for men in our community who are experiencing homelessness, many of whom are seniors, veterans, and people with disabling conditions.”

TCBC Executive Director, Marie Timpano, commented, “We’re truly honored to work with the County on this milestone development that will ensure that men in need of safe, emergency housing and supportive services can access it right here in their own community. We’re also excited to work with our Beaver County Continuum of Care (CoC) partners to empower shelter participants to secure and maintain stable, permanent housing, independence, and ultimately, a future of hope and possibilities.”

TCBC is currently under contract with Drug and Alcohol Services of Beaver Valley to purchase their current building located at 697 State Street in Vanport.

Information regarding the men’s shelter site, building rehabilitation plans, and program development will be announced as updates are available.
