A blaze killed 10 exotic animals Thursday that were inside a barn at African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton near Sandusky in northern Ohio. Police responded last night to the park and found a zebra running loose and one of the barns engulfed in flames. Firefighters battled the blaze for more than an hour before getting it under control. The 10 animals that died inside the structure included three bongos, three giraffes, three red river hogs, and one springbok. The park was scheduled to be closed on Thanksgiving, according to the website, and police say the only person on the property at the time of the blaze was a manager/gamekeeper who lived there. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, which will be turned over to the state fire marshal’s office. Investigators are expected to be back at the site today.
