John L. Black, Jr. 82, of Medina, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026.
He was born in New Brighton on February 1st, 1944, a son of the late John L. Black, Sr. and Ethel (nee Hennessey) Black.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kaye Geary.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Sandra (nee Sullivan), his daughter, Tina (David) Flack, his son, David (Brenda) Black, his grandchildren: Cassandra, Justin (Annie), Aiden & Caylee Flack, Brittney (Brian) Hamilton and Zachary (Jessica) Black; as well as his great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Delaney and Hayleigh Hamilton and Madison Black, two more little ones on the way, his sisters, Dorothy Jones and Marilyn Balderson.
John had resided in Beaver County until he moved to Medina County in 2013. He had worked at the former B & W Steel Mill in Pennsylvania prior to owning and operating his own paint and auto body shop Blackies Automotive from 1971-2004. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Valley City. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving for three years. He was devoted to the loving care of his wife and he had a tender attachment to his dog, Thor.
A visitation will occur from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2nd in the Gathering Area of St. Martin of Tours, 1800 Station Road, Valley City, Ohio, with a Funeral Mass immediately following in St. Martin’s Chapel.
John’s burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 3rd in St. Joseph Cemetery, 1501 1st Avenue, New Brighton, with Military Honors.
The Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City, Ohio has the honor of serving the Black family and was the funeral home that was in charge of his arrangements.
