Josephine (Schroeter) Uzupis, 96, passed away peacefully on July 31st, 2026 in Baden.

She was born in Ashland on September 3rd, 1929, the daughter of the late Oswald Schroeter and Teresa Berg Schroeter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Uzupis, her daughter, Carol (Uzupis) Benedick and her granddaughter, Larissa Uzupis.

She is survived by her children: Steven (Betty) Uzupis, Sr. Jean Uzupis, CSJ, Donna Uzupis, and John (Denise) Uzupis; as well as her grandchildren: Steven (Rita) Uzupis, Tamea (Bill) Uzupis, Aidan Uzupis, and Nolan Uzupis; along with her great-grandchildren, Anina and Emmet Uzupis.

She spent much of her life in Lancaster, where she lived, worked, and raised her family. In March of 2020, she moved to Baden, where she spent her final years.

Josephine was dedicated and committed to her family and church. Following her husband’s death in 1965, she kept the children together in a time when women were not so welcome in the workplace and easier paths existed.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, Pennsylvania, for welcoming Josephine into their home and surrounding her with care and compassion during her final years.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 11th, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 501 E. Orange St. Lancaster. The funeral liturgy will take place at the church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Ashland.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge.

In lieu of flowers, Josephine’s family requests that memorial donations be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, 1020 W. State Street, Baden, PA 15005.
