Ernest Lee “Ernie” Plum (1954-2025)

Ernest Lee “Ernie” Plum, 70, of New Brighton passed away on May 1st, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after suffering a tragic fall.

He was born in New Brighton on May 11th, 1954, a son of the late Ernest R. Plum and Florence ‘Peach’ E. Sedwick Plum Medved. At the heart of Ernie’s world was his cherished wife, Joan V. (Wright) Plum, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. Ernie was a devoted father to his two children, Nicole Vale of California and Krista Payne of South Carolina and three stepchildren, Brenda Shultz of Ohio, Lee (Jennifer) Shultz of Center Township and Rebecca Ohler of Beaver Falls. He is also survived by his brother, John (Nancy) Plum of South Carolina, his sisters, Shawn (Larry) Welsh of Georgia and Krista Plum and her husband, Flavion Mancini of Beaver, fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernest was a proud graduate of New Brighton High School and furthered his education by attending college. He dedicated many years of service as a skilled electrician. He was a member of the IBEW Local 712, which was where he retired.

Ernest was a man of diverse interests and hobbies as an enthusiast of the Cirque du Soleil and a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His passion for mechanics was evident in his collection of antique Indian Motorcycles and vintage cars. His eclectic taste extended to a variety of pursuits and he was an active member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America.

Due to Ernie surviving stage 4 lung cancer, the family has suggested memorial contributions be made, if desired, to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Suite #18, 5150 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.

Ernie’s life will be honored in a celebration of life ceremony at a later date where family and friends will gather to share memories.
