(Beaver, Pa) It was announced at the Commissioners Work Session Wednesday that the Beaver County Recycling Center will have a change in schedule soon. The center will no longer be open on Mondays starting in March. The reason for the change is said to be due to staffing challenges.
It was also said during the session that an EPA clean up grant that was set to benefit the county is now on hold. Commissioner Jack Manning says a lot of work was put into securing funding to transform the site of the former Darlington Brickyard along the Little Beaver Creek on Cannelton Road.
The 75 acre site hasn’t been used since 1980 and is contaminated with asbestos along with other inorganic contaminants and metals. The project was going to turn the site into a public space to be used as a park along with providing connectivity to the North Country Trail.
The recent freeze on federal grants from President Trump and the White House has stopped the money from being dispersed for now.
