Pelosi Says She’s ‘Done With’ Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Nancy Pelosi is brushing back impeachment questions, saying “it’s not even close” to having enough support among House Democrats for a vote. Pelosi said at a policy conference Tuesday that her “stock goes up” when President Donald Trump attacks her, as he did last week. Trump lashed out at Pelosi while both were overseas last week, calling her “Nervous Nancy” after it was reported she privately told Democrats she’d rather see him voted out of office and “in prison” than impeached. Pelosi said she never criticizes the president while abroad and won’t do so now because she’s “done with him.”

Some Virginia Voters Discount Blackface Scandal

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Some Virginia primary voters are say they forgive the state’s governor for a blackface scandal or otherwise don’t think he will be a drag on Democrats in statehouse elections. Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam isn’t on Tuesday’s ballot. But a racist yearbook photo that surfaced in February and almost forced Gov. Ralph Northam from office is expected to be on voters minds as they consider contests this election cycle for all 140 seats in the legislature.

US Catholic Bishops Convene to Confront Sex-Abuse Crisis

DETROIT (AP) — For decades, leaders of the Roman Catholic Church were largely left to police their own. But as American bishops gather for a conference this week to confront the reignited sex-abuse crisis, they’re facing the most scrutiny ever from secular law enforcement. From Michigan to New Mexico, attorneys general are sifting through files on clergy sex abuse that were seized at dozens of archdioceses. The Catholic church’s defenders say it is being singled out by overzealous prosecutors.

Pennsylvania Nursing Homes Get Bad Marks From National Group

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania nursing homes have received a failing grade from a national advocacy group. Families for Better Care issued its findings Monday. The group based its report card on eight measures collected by the federal government, including the number of problems found during government inspections, staffing levels and number of verified complaints. Pennsylvania ranked 46th overall, down from 32nd in 2014, the year of the group’s last report card.

Company Executives Denounce Abortion Restrictions in NY Times Ad

Scores of technology, media, and fashion executives took out a full-page advertisement in the New York Times on Monday to denounce restricting access to abortion and other reproductive healthcare. The advertisement follows a string of company executives in recent weeks who threatened to pull investments in states enacting new laws that limit abortion rights. Nine states, including Alabama, Georgia and Missouri have passed abortion laws this year that all but ban the procedure.
