On Thursday night the Aliquippa high school football team had an opportunity to capture it’s fifth state championship title. When they faced the Dallas Mountaineers in the AAAA PIAA Finals at Cumberland Valley high school.
The Quips hit the ground running from the beginning, in the first quarter they jumped out to a 16-0 lead. Scoring touchdowns both on the ground and through the air. Then again on a Tiqwai Hayes 34 yard touchdown run giving Aliquippa a 24-7 lead after one quarter.
The only thing that was different for Aliquippa in the second quarter was now the defense wanted in on the action. Qa’lil Goode snagged three interceptions in the first half. Taking the third 87 yards to the house, giving the Quips a commanding 40-14 lead at the half.
In the second half, the running game of Aliquippa continued to punish a worn Dallas team. Cameron Lindsey and John Tracy added three more touchdowns on the ground. Putting the WPIAL AAAA champions up 60-14 over the Mountaineers. At that point the players, coaches and fans just had to patiently wait for the clock to hit triple zeros for the celebration to begin.
That’s just what they did and when the final horn sounded, the 2023 Aliquippa football team capped off a perfect 14-0 season with a AAAA PIAA State Championship.
