Beaver Valley Choral Society Set For Lenten Concerts, Celebrating 100 Years In 2020

Few people and institutions get to share in the glory of turning 100. Even fewer get to do so in such a glorious and busy fashion.

The Beaver Valley Choral Society is one of them.

BVCS Associate Director Sharon Burchill & BVCS President Lee Pfeifer joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to discuss the upcoming schedule for the Choral Society, beginning with their Lenten/Easter series of shows entitled “Depth Of Mercy”. Shows begin March 28, and the full schedule can be viewed on their website.

The two also announced the return of the BVCS Summer Academy held at (and in conjunction with) the Rochester Area School District. The Academy gives students a chance to take a crash course in vocal performance, instrumental jazz, music technology, and more. Full details can be seen here.

And if that wasn’t busy enough, the Choral Society is heading to New York City for 5 days in November, as they were selected by Distinguished Concerts International New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall on November 16. Lee & Sharon talk about how the BVCS is honored to have this performance, one that will require several days of practice before the performance with full orchestra.

BF Business District Authority To Hold First Chili “Walk-Off” On January 25

Usually it’s the chefs of the world cooking up the chili to compete against each other in chili cook-offs. But this time it’s not the restaurants, bars, and caterers serving up the saucy delight…rather, it’s the local thrift stores, clothing stores and even the local radio stations displaying the results of their recipes.

The Beaver Falls Business District Authority is holding its first ever Chili Walk-Off from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 25. Twelve different businesses in the city (including Beaver County Radio) will be presenting their chili for those to try and vote on. Each business will have voting at its location, and those who vote will be eligible for gift cards from these businesses.

District Authority board members Brenda Mellan & Denise Molchen-Donnelly joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to talk about the Walk-Off, how it all came about, and what to expect. They also talked about the upcoming events that the District Authority is holding, how one can become a member, and the hopes to fill the vacant buildings within the city.

Senator Camera Bartolotta Touts Bipartisanship & Hard Work During AM Beaver County Interview

“We need to work together. There’s too much on the line. There’s too much at stake to tuck yourself in your own little shell and say ‘I’m not going to cooperate with anyone who doesn’t say exactly what I say.'”

Those words, spoken by Pennsylvania State Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46, Beaver/Washington/Greene), showcases her charge to change the partisan narratives that, in her mind, have plagued political dialogue in Harrisburg and Washington to the point where ‘politics’ has become “a dirty word”.

She spoke in a phone interview with A.M. Beaver County Host Matt Drzik on January 21 about her views on bipartisan politics in Harrisburg, as well as her thoughts on the improvement of Beaver County (including a surprise announcement at the end of the conversation), and what she’s accomplished and still hopes to accomplish before her time in the State Senate concludes.
